Softball Game Preview: Kellis Cougars vs. La Joya Community Fighting Lobos

The Kellis Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Kellis lost 15-2 to Buckeye on Tuesday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kellis saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danay Hernandez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

Even though they lost, Kellis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .429 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, La Joya Community scored the most runs they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Fairfax by a score of 10-9.

Anaya Romero and Mariah Lozano stepped up to the plate in a big way. Romero got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Lozano scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Romero has posted since back in March of 2024. Aimee Rivera was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.

La Joya Community's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Kellis, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Kellis came up short against La Joya Community when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 10-6. Can Kellis avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
