Baseball Recap: Murphysboro Triumphs

While Murphysboro's victory against Herrin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Red Devils sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Tigers on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

The team relied heavily on Mason Bastien, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Murphysboro is undefeated when Bastien posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-7 otherwise.

Murphysboro's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Herrin, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Coming up, Murphysboro is taking a road trip to challenge Mascoutah at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Herrin, they will take on Waltonville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
