Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Chiawana

Chiawana had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They blew past the Kennewick Lions 10-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Riverhawks also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Gabriella Garza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chiawana got a massive performance out of Chase Wirt, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave Wirt a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avigail Rojas, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Chiawana kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Chiawana's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Kennewick, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-10.

Coming up, Kennewick will take on Richland at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bombers' pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Chiawana will be paying especially close attention to Kennewick's game: after Kennewick faces off against Richland, they'll take on Chiawana again at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
