Softball Recap: Massabesic Comes Up Short

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Massabesic and South Portland, and South Portland kept the tradition alive. The Mustangs lost 14-4 to the Red Riots on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 10-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

Devenny Brickett and Madison Penney stepped up to the plate in a big way. Brickett went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Penney went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Brickett's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendal Pelletier, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Massabesic has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for South Portland, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4.

Massabesic will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sanford at 4:30 p.m. on June 2. As for South Portland, they will take on Westbrook at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Riots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Blazes have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season.
