Basketball Recap: Swain County Comes Up Short

Swain County lost against Cherokee back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Swain County Maroon Devils were outmatched by the Cherokee Braves and fell 112-23. While losing is never fun, the Maroon Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 476th, while the Braves are ranked 21st).

Leading Cherokee to victory were Aaliyah Rogers and Joscelyn Stamper. Rogers went 8 for 12 to rack up 17 points along with seven boards and four steals, while Stamper made all 5 shots she took for 13 points in addition to seven assists and six rebounds. Those seven rebounds gave Rogers a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Lossiah, who posted 12 points.

Swain County has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Cherokee, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 17-2.

Swain County has already played their next matchup, a 55-34 loss against Franklin on the 5th. As for Cherokee, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-19 victory against Murphy on the 7th.
