Basketball Game Preview: Loogootee Lions vs. Wood Memorial Trojans

The Loogootee Lions will venture away from home to face off against the Wood Memorial Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Loogootee will be strutting in after a victory while Wood Memorial will be coming in after a defeat.

If Loogootee beats Wood Memorial with 41 points on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Loogootee came out on top against Clay City by a score of 41-34 on Saturday. That's two games straight that the Lions have won by exactly seven points.

Loogootee found their leader in sophomore Alaina Diamond, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. Diamond is becoming a predictor of Loogootee's success: when she posts at least ten rebounds the team is 6-3 (and 0-4 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Madison Waggner, who posted eight points and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Wood Memorial ended up a good deal behind Jasper last Saturday and lost 58-42. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The win made it two in a row for Loogootee and bumps their season record up to 6-7. As for Wood Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.

Things could have been worse for Loogootee, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 48-32 loss to Wood Memorial in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Loogootee avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
