Baseball Recap: Coalgate's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Coalgate came into Monday's game having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against the Vanoss Wolves by a score of 7-3 on Monday. The Wildcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wolves, too.

Jett Walkup made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brody Mccollum, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Coalgate is 2-1 when Mccollum posts two or more runs, but 3-9 otherwise. Easton Wilkinson was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Coalgate's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Vanoss, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Coalgate has already played their next match, a 6-0 victory against Mill Creek on the 31st. As for Vanoss, they will challenge Dibble at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dibble's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Vanoss' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
