Baseball Game Preview: Crestwood Comets vs. Hazleton Area Cougars

Crestwood hasn't had much luck against Hazleton Area recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Comets will face off against the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Crestwood has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Pittston hit Crestwood with a four-run first inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Comets came up short against the Patriots, falling 11-0.

Meanwhile, Hazleton Area had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 16-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Hazleton Area got a massive performance out of Logan Hearity, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits Hearity has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Chris Peters, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Hazleton Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Crestwood's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7-1. As for Hazleton Area, their record is now 10-1.

Crestwood might still be hurting after the 10-1 loss they got from Hazleton Area when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
