Recap: McKinney Lions vs. Guyer Wildcats
On Friday, The McKinney Lions faced the Guyer Wildcats in a battle between two of the state's top teams. McKinney enjoyed a cozy 37-20 victory over Guyer. McKinney pushed the score to 35-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Guyer cut but never quite recovered from.
Leading McKinney to victory were Bryan Jackson and Godspower Nwawuihe . Jackson rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns, while Nwawuihe rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries. Khristian Mackintrus was in the mix as well, providing McKinney with two touchdowns.
Guyer's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kegan Stelmazewski, who picked up 166 receiving yards and a touchdown. Josiah Martin also helped out as he racked up 118 receiving yards.
McKinney's victory was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.0 points per game. As for Guyer, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
McKinney will be playing in front of their home fans against Prosper at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Prosper is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games. As for Guyer, they will head out on the road to face off against Rock Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rock Hill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Guyer is ranked 19th).
