Preview: Willis Wildkats vs. College Park Cavaliers
Willis is 0-6 against College Park since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Willis Wildkats will head out on the road to face off against the College Park Cavaliers at 6:30 p.m. Willis is hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Willis scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Cleveland 79-45 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Willis has managed all season.
Willis' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amy Roberts, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for Roberts. Another player making a difference was Kaleigh Kibbey, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, College Park humbled Caney Creek with a 44-16 victory. Given College Park's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 472nd, while Caney Creek is ranked 1247th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Willis' victory bumped their record up to 2-14. As for College Park, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.
Willis suffered a grim 56-34 defeat to College Park in their previous meeting back in January. Can Willis avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
