Softball Recap: Lake Stevens Takes a Loss

After flying high against Cascade last Tuesday, Lake Stevens came back down to earth. The Vikings fell just short of the Jackson Timberwolves by a score of 4-3 on Thursday. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Timberwolves recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Mara Sivley was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Alaina Emme was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Emerson Cummins, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Lake Stevens' loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Jackson, their win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Stevens will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Arlington at 4:30 p.m. on the 14th. As for Jackson, they will face off against Ballard at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Timberwolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Beavers have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
