Football Recap: Navarre Comes Up Short

Navarre had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-9 to make it six. They were beaten by the Niceville Eagles 34-6. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 306th, while the Eagles are ranked 111th).

Ali Bryant threw for 57 yards and one TD. Marquez White was his top target, picking up 50 receiving yards and one score.

As for Niceville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won five contests by 21 points or more so far this season.

Niceville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jakobe Gilyard led the charge by rushing for 201 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also picking up 61 receiving yards and one TD. Gilyard is becoming a predictor of the Eagles' success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is 5-2 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Deagan McCoy was another key passer, throwing for 216 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Navarre does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Niceville, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Ponte Vedra at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th. The Sharks' defense has only allowed 13.8 points per game this season, so the Eagles' offense will have their work cut out for them.
