Baseball Recap: Campbell County Takes a Loss

Campbell County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 15-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Claiborne Bulldogs. Even if the Cougars couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Tyler Cook made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Keegan Nelson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Even though they lost, Campbell County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post 11 or more hits.

Campbell County's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Claiborne, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Campbell County and Claiborne could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. Campbell County will face off against Oak Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Monday down 250 places (259 vs. 9). Meanwhile, Claiborne (ranked 223rd) will meet Greeneville (ranked 32nd) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
