Softball Game Preview: Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders vs. Steele Canyon Cougars

The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders will be taking part in a tournament against the Steele Canyon Cougars at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Mater Dei Catholic gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Mira Mesa.

The team relied heavily on Bella Harris, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Steele Canyon had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victor by a 17-5 margin over Mira Mesa on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Marauders: they've now won four in a row.

Hailey Trujillo was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing two bases while going 5-for-5. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dannika Lakin, who scored four runs while going 2-for-5.

Mater Dei Catholic might still be hurting after the 12-6 defeat they got from Steele Canyon in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can Mater Dei Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
