Ross dropped their record down to 13-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Franklin Wildcats by a score of 12-10. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Rams, who until this matchup were averaging 3.83 runs allowed.
Ross got a good showing from Taylor Bertram, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Bertram has allowed since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Olivia Powers made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kam Commins, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Franklin, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games.
On Franklin's side, Hailey Cooper made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cooper was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Brooks, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Josie Whitt was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
While Ross had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
