Preview: Covington Trojans vs. South Vermillion Wildcats
Covington is 9-1 against South Vermillion since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Covington Trojans will be playing at home against the South Vermillion Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Covington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Covington came up short against Clinton Prairie and fell 46-36. While losing is never fun, Covington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while Clinton Prairie is ranked 105th).
Despite their defeat, Covington saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Coye Ferguson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Landon Herzog was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, South Vermillion waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 57-47 win over Martinsville.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Vermillion to victory, but perhaps none more so than Luke Bush, who scored 27 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bush has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayson Shoults, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Covington now has a losing record at 10-11. As for South Vermillion, they pushed their record up to 12-8 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Covington didn't have too much breathing room in their game against South Vermillion in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 55-50 victory.
