Softball Recap: Surry Central Wins Going Away Against Elkin

Surry Central made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Elkin, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Surry Central put the hurt on Elkin with a sharp 15-5 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

McKindsey Lloyd was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lloyd was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Surry Central got a massive performance out of Morgan Brooks, who scored three runs while going 2-for-5. Those three runs gave Brooks a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallie Southern, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.

Surry Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.

Surry Central has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. Elkin has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Surry Central will take on Alleghany at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Alleghany has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.5 runs per game on average), something Surry Central will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Elkin, they will challenge Mount Airy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Elkin is facing Mount Airy at the right time seeing as Mount Airy is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
