Baseball Game Preview: Chatham Charter Knights vs. Southwestern Randolph Cougars

The Chatham Charter Knights will challenge the Southwestern Randolph Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Chatham Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Chatham Charter will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against River Mill on Wednesday. The Knights were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Jaguars. Considering the Knights have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Zach Cartrette spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luke Johnson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyner Williams, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Chatham Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Southwestern Randolph was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They lost 8-1 to Southeast Alamance.

Chatham Charter pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Southwestern Randolph, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.
