It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Lapeer ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They skirted past the Davison Cardinals 5-4. For the Lightning, this counts as revenge for the 8-7 win the Cardinals walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2025.

Cameron Vanecek made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 5.1 innings pitched. Vanecek was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kody Walton, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Hind, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Lapeer now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Davison, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Davison will venture away from home to take on Lapeer East at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. This will be the Cardinals' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. Lapeer will be paying especially close attention to Davison's contest: after Davison faces off against Lapeer East, they'll take on Lapeer again at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
