Softball Recap: Douglass Takes a Loss

Douglass dropped their record down to 5-9 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 28-1 to the Halstead Dragons. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 14-4 to the Dragons when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Douglass saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Ast, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.

As for Halstead, the win keeps they at an undefeated 17-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average this season.

On Halstead's side, Kaci Young made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Young has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Thea Boese was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. Onnyka Nedich was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Halstead beat Douglass by a score of 15-0 later that day.
