Softball Game Preview: Columbian Tornadoes vs. Willard Crimson Flashes

The Columbian Tornadoes will head out to take on the Willard Crimson Flashes at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Willard took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Columbian, who comes in off a win.

Columbian will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Colonel Crawford on Monday. The Tornadoes put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 10-4 win.

Olyvia Steinmetz was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Maizie Mellott was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Columbian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Willard was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Port Clinton, falling 11-5.

Brinn Trimner was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Maddie Whetstone also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Columbian is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Willard, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
