Preview: Porter's Chapel Academy Eagles vs. Prairie View Academy Spartans
The Porter's Chapel Academy Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Prairie View Academy Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Porter's Chapel Academy comes in on ten and Prairie View Academy on three.
Last Friday, Porter's Chapel Academy took their match at home with ease, bagging a 58-8 victory over Wilkinson County Christian Academy. Given Porter's Chapel Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Wilkinson County Christian Academy is ranked 27th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
John Wyatt Massey went supernova for Porter's Chapel Academy, throwing for 207 yards and six touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Taylor LaBarre made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Prairie View Academy really took it to Hillcrest Christian for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-6 victory at home. Prairie View Academy pushed the score to 42-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Hillcrest Christian had no chance of recovering from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Prairie View Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cole Murphy, who rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Murphy was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards. Another player making a difference was Hayden Little, who rushed for 69 yards and three touchdowns.
Porter's Chapel Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Tensas Academy and 3-6 Wilkinson County Christian Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.4% over those games). As for Prairie View Academy, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Porter's Chapel Academy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 242.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Prairie View Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 240.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Porter's Chapel Academy beat Prairie View Academy 42-34 in their previous matchup back in September of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Porter's Chapel Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
