Football Game Preview: Metuchen Bulldogs vs. Brearley Bears

The Metuchen Bulldogs will challenge the Brearley Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Metuchen is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 53-0 win over J.P. Stevens. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won four in a row.

Cameron Hayes-Durina had an outrageously good game as he threw for 316 yards and six touchdowns while completing 87% of his passes, and also rushed for 56 yards. Those six passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Metuchen's leading receiver Justus Leitner was Hayes-Durina's top target yet again, picking up 127 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Metuchen didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Gio Tan, Dennis Toth, Leitner, and Mateo Tan picked up one apiece.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Brearley against South River on Friday as the squad secured a 49-12 win. That 37 point margin sets a new team best for the Bears this season.

Metuchen picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-4. As for Brearley, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
