Basketball Recap: Anne Howard Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Salt Lake Academy

Waterford won against Maeser Prep Academy last Thursday with 36 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. The Waterford Ravens managed a 36-31 victory over the Salt Lake Academy Griffins. For the Ravens, this counts as revenge for the 35-27 win the Griffins walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2022.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Waterford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Anne Howard, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine steals. Howard is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Suzanne Reardon was another key player, putting up six points along with 22 boards and three steals.

Waterford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Salt Lake Academy lost, don't look at Addison Patrick. Despite the final result, she posted 27 points. With that strong performance, Patrick is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game.

Waterford has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. As for Salt Lake Academy, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-4.

The future could be bright for both Waterford and Salt Lake Academy: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Waterford will try to hand Rowland Hall their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Salt Lake Academy will try to hand Freedom Prep Academy their fourth-straight loss when the two meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
