Softball Game Preview: Mesa Jackrabbits vs. Skyline Coyotes

Mesa is on a seven-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Skyline a five-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Mesa Jackrabbits will be playing in front of their home fans against the Skyline Coyotes at 3:45 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Mesa came up short against Gilbert on Monday, falling 17-1.

Leah Alcala made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Isom, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Skyline lost 21-1 to Red Mountain on Tuesday.

Skyline's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Mesa, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Mesa's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Jackrabbits have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Skyline, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mesa continue to outrun the ball?

Mesa suffered a grim 18-11 defeat to Skyline in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Jackrabbits avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
