Softball Game Preview: Weber Warriors vs. Cedar Valley Aviators

The Weber Warriors will square off against the Cedar Valley Aviators at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Weber has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Weber turned things around against Woods Cross on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 12-11.

Emery Hayes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Ari Hillan and Peyton Barker did most of the damage at the plate: Hillan got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Barker went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave Barker a new career-high. Raegan Blaisdell was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Cedar Valley lost 16-1 to Riverton on Tuesday. The Aviators have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cedar Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jeslyn Collins, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.

Weber's victory bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Cedar Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Weber hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Cedar Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
