Softball Recap: Pell City Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Pell City barely beat Sumiton Christian the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles an 11-0 shutout on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Pell City got a great performance from Kenzy Atkinson as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Atkinson has posted since back in February.

At the plate, Kherington Keith was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayden Smith, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Pell City's win bumped their record up to 20-12-2. As for Sumiton Christian, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-10-1.

Coming up, Pell City will square off against Ramsay at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.05 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Sumiton Christian, they will face off against Gardendale at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
