Basketball Recap: Jaheim Taylor's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Denver West over DSST: Green Valley Ranch

On Friday, the Denver West Cowboys came up short against the DSST: Green Valley Ranch Raptors and fell 51-40. While the Cowboys didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Raptors 16-12 in the first quarter.

Denver West's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaheim Taylor, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last five games he's played. Jeremiah Parker was another key player, putting up seven points and seven rebounds.

DSST: Green Valley Ranch's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was David Abankwa, who posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Skyyaire Russell, who went 5 of 11 to rack up 12 points and six assists.

Denver West's defeat dropped their record down to 16-2. As for DSST: Green Valley Ranch, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5.

Denver West and DSST: Green Valley Ranch should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Denver West will challenge DSST: College View at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday up 87 places (43 vs. 130). Denver West will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak. Similarly, DSST: Green Valley Ranch (ranked 68th) will meet Kennedy (ranked 311th) at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Denver West is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67 points per game this season.
