Basketball Recap: Hazelwood East Spartans vs. Affton Cougars

The Hazelwood East Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell 42-35 to Affton. Hazelwood East has not had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Amelia Wilson was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds for Affton. That makes it four consecutive games in which Wilson has scored at least a third of Affton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna M daughtry, who scored ten points along with seven steals and five assists.

Hazelwood East's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Affton, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season.

Hazelwood East will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Crusaders at 5:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Helias presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Spartans in Missouri (the Crusaders are ranked 31st, while the Spartans are ranked 392nd). As for Affton, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Owls at 5:30 p.m. Windsor has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
