The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds will head out on the road to face off against the Walnut Ridge Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sloan-Hendrix has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sloan-Hendrix fell victim to Tuckerman and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 12-0. The loss continues a trend for the Greyhounds in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost eight in a row.
Sloan-Hendrix saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Brown, who went 1-for-2 with one triple. That triple was Brown's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Walnut Ridge was not the first on the board on Monday, but they got there more often. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over Manila. The Bobcats haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Ashtyn Bradley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Whitley White and Karlee Broadway did most of the damage at the plate: White went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Broadway scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most RBI White has posted since back in March. Kinzlee Schutzius was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Sloan-Hendrix's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Walnut Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sloan-Hendrix hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .396. However, it's not like Walnut Ridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sloan-Hendrix might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Walnut Ridge in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Can the Greyhounds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
