Recap: Mullen Mustangs vs. Smoky Hill Buffaloes
The Mullen Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 62-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Smoky Hill. While losing is never fun, Mullen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Smoky Hill is ranked third).
Mullen lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jordan Leslie, who scored 15 points along with nine assists and eight rebounds. Leslie is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Mason Bonner was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 16 rebounds and five assists.
Smoky Hill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaylan Graham, who scored 13 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Torian ray Gasaway, who scored 11 points.
Mullen's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Smoky Hill, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.
Mullen will be playing at home against Grandview at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Grandview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 last Monday. As for Smoky Hill, they will head out on the road to challenge Arapahoe at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Arapahoe: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Smoky Hill has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
