Softball Recap: Laurel's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Two

Laurel won the last time they faced Aliquippa and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Spartans' pitchers stepped up to hand the Quips a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Spartans have won three contests by more than ten runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Maddie Evans was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Jayme Weisenstein also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.

Laurel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Laurel and bumps their season record up to 5-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-4 Aliquippa and 0-9 Freedom Area. As for Aliquippa, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

Coming up, Laurel will venture away from home to challenge Shenango at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Aliquippa, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Freedom Area at 4:00 p.m. The Quips are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
