The Mullen Broncos and the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mullen will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Last Thursday, Mullen didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Hyannis, but they still walked away with a 49-43 win.

Mullen got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Hayley Donohoe out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Donohoe's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Peyton Paxton was another key player, putting up nine points along with eight steals and six assists.
Mullen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Anselmo-Merna hadn't done well against Overton recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Anselmo-Merna breezed by Overton to the tune of 66-27. The Coyotes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 26 points or more this season.
Anselmo-Merna's win came from a few key players Mullen will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Makenna Miller, who almost dropped a triple-double on 14 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhianen Myers, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 14 points and eight boards.
Mullen's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Anselmo-Merna, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mullen has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 37.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Anselmo-Merna struggles in that department as they've been averaging 43.4 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Mullen came up short against Anselmo-Merna in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 36-26. Can Mullen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
