Softball Recap: Madera South Sets Scoring Season-High Against Sunnyside

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madera South). They blew past the Sunnyside Wildcats 15-9 on Saturday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Stallions considering their two-run performance the contest before.

The team relied heavily on Belen Hernandez, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alondra Ornelas, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Madera South hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.

With the victory, Madera South broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-14. As for Sunnyside, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.

Madera South will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fresno at 3:30 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Sunnyside, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 16-1 loss against Washington Union on the 12th.
