Softball Recap: Hesston's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Hesston had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Larned Indians as they made off with a 13-3 win. That's more bragging rights for the Swathers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Brenlyn Richmond made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Elyse Griffin was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Emma Gudeman was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Hesston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Hesston's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Larned, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hesston beat the Indians by a score of 17-3 later that day.
