Basketball Recap: Walsh Starts off Right with Win over Rolla

Walsh had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Rolla Pirates 63-34. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Leading Walsh to victory were Hudson Gourley and Samuel Wright. Gourley went 8-for-10 to rack up 18 points, while Wright shot 88% from the field en route to 19 points and five boards. Those 88% shooting accuracy gave Wright a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Foster, who posted seven points and six rebounds.

Rolla is on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Walsh won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Kit Carson at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Rolla, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fellowship Baptist Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026.
