Basketball Game Preview: Gering Bulldogs vs. Chadron Cardinals

Gering and Chadron are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2021, but not for long. The Gering Bulldogs will take on the Chadron Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Last Saturday, Gering had to suffer through a 74-38 loss at the hands of Scottsbluff. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Bearcats are ranked 20th).

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Chadron over Gordon-Rushville in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Chadron blew Gordon-Rushville out of the water with a 63-14 final score. With the Cardinals ahead 41-10 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Chadron is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Gering, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.

Gering came up short against Chadron in their previous matchup on Friday, falling 58-50. Can Gering avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
