Softball Recap: Darlington Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Darlington ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lamar Silver Foxes, sneaking past 10-9. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Falcons also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Malaya Holt made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Holt was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carly Gainey, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Johnson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

Darlington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Lamar, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Darlington will challenge South Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bruins' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lamar, they will face off against Lee Central at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Stallions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.67 runs per game on average), something the Silver Foxes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
