Basketball Recap: Argonaut Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Argonaut can now relate to. They had to suffer through a 65-36 loss at the hands of the Woodland Christian Cardinals. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Mustangs have suffered since December 26, 2024.

Despite the defeat, Argonaut saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alayna Critchfield dropped a double-double with ten points and 15 rebounds. Critchfield is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Kaylee Avila was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Argonaut smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

It was another big night for Teagan Hayes, who went 10-for-21 en route to 23 points along with six assists and four steals for Woodland Christian. The team also got some help courtesy of Keziah Maldonado-Lemus, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 10 points in addition to eight assists and five steals.

Argonaut's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-12. As for Woodland Christian, they pushed their record up to 26-5 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home.

Argonaut does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Woodland Christian, they will face off against Bret Harte at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Bret Harte will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Woodland Christian surely won't give up without a fight.
