Basketball Recap: Cabell Midland Comes Up Short

Cabell Midland was the 72-61 winner over Winfield when they last played one another back in January of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. The Cabell Midland Knights fell just short of the Winfield Generals by a score of 46-43 on Friday. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Winfield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashlee Johnson out in front who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. That's the most points Johnson has posted since back in January of 2024. Gabriella Canterbury was another key player, putting up nine points along with six assists and three steals.

Cabell Midland now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Winfield, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-5.

Cabell Midland and Winfield could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings. Cabell Midland (ranked 28th) will meet Nitro (ranked first) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Winfield (ranked 41st) will meet Wayne (ranked seventh) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
