Soccer Game Preview: Wheeling vs. Zion-Benton

The Wheeling Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Zion-Benton Zee-Bees at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Wheeling will be strutting in after a victory while Zion-Benton will be coming in after a loss.

Wheeling is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. Their defense stepped up to hand Maine East a 4-0 shutout on Friday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded Wheeling with their most commanding win of the season.

They hit Maine East with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Nicole Schreiner, Annette Villa, Maya Perez, and Krystal Diaz.

Meanwhile, Zion-Benton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They came up short against Stevenson, falling 8-0. While losing is never fun, Zion-Benton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while Stevenson are ranked 18th).

Wheeling's win bumped their record up to 4-12. As for Zion-Benton, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.

Wheeling might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Zion-Benton in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
