Patrick Henry won the last time they faced Mission Bay and Natalie Rynard did her part to make sure it happened again. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Buccaneers on Tuesday with plenty of help from Rynard, who had 44 assists and four digs. She is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 14 or more in each of the last 18 games she's played.
While Patrick Henry won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 28-26, 25-17.
Meanwhile, Point Loma narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Lincoln 3-2.
Point Loma wouldn't go down easily and took Lincoln into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 24-25, 15-10.
Patrick Henry better keep an eye on Olivia Karvelis. She was instrumental in Point Loma's win, getting 19 digs and three aces. Genesie Devers also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Point Loma was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in five consecutive contests.
Point Loma's victory bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Patrick Henry, their win bumped their record up to 20-11.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Patrick Henry has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Point Loma struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Patrick Henry was able to grind out a solid victory over Point Loma in their previous meeting back in September, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
