Football Recap: Savannah Christian Finds Playoff Glory Versus Christian Heritage + How To Watch

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Savannah Christian walked away with it. They came out on top against the Christian Heritage Lions by a score of 35-23 on Friday. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Lions are ranked 238th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Blaise Thomas, who rushed for 142 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 120 rushing yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Savannah Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 356 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 173 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.

Savannah Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Athen Hudspeth led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself.

Despite the loss, Christian Heritage still got an impressive performance from Benji Michmerhuizen, who picked up 96 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Savannah Christian is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.6 points over those games. As for Christian Heritage, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-4.

Coming up, Savannah Christian will head out on the road to face off against Fellowship Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders will need to watch out since the Paladins have now posted at least 31 points in their last seven contests. Christian Heritage does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
