League recap: McCarty overpowering for Oak Grove in past week

6A Region 5 league recap: 3/13/13

6A Region 5's top pitcher this week was Oak Grove's Kirk Mccarty. He picked up two wins and 13 strikeouts.

Top honors in the league this week go to Hattiesburg, which finished with four wins overall, good for best in the league. The Tigers beat Greene County 7-6, Meridian 7-5, Laurel 14-2 and the Wildcats 7-5.

The Warriors' pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only nine hits and one walk, both of which led the league.

Hattiesburg scored 34 runs this week to lead the league, but Oak Grove is tops in runs scored this year, with 54.

After picking up two wins and 13 strikeouts this week, McCarty now leads the league in both categories.



The league boasted four .400 hitters over the past week. They were led by Colton McMurray, who hit .600 this week (3-for-5).

The Warriors' McCarty struck out 11 Petal hitters en route to a 4-0 victory on March 8. He gave up two hits and zero runs over seven innings of work.
