Basketball Recap: R.J. Reynolds Comes Up Short

R.J. Reynolds was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a blow against the Reagan Raiders, falling 73-29. While losing is never fun, the Demons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 401st, while the Raiders are ranked 175th).

R.J. Reynolds lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Hattie Boone, who posted seven points and ten rebounds. Cameron Fleming was another key player, putting up five points and three steals.

Even though they lost, R.J. Reynolds smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Reagan was led to victory by Kayla George and Grace Galyon. George went 7-for-16 to rack up 22 points in addition to six boards and five assists, while Galyon almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine assists. The dominant performance gave George a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Corbin, who earned nine points and seven rebounds.

R.J. Reynolds' defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Reagan, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Coming up, R.J. Reynolds will welcome Davie at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Davie knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully R.J. Reynolds likes a good challenge. As for Reagan, they will venture away from home to square off against East Forsyth at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Reagan is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season.
