Portal takes down Charlton County in a playoff battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Portal Panthers had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 85-41 victory over the Indians at home. The win was nothing new for Portal as they're now sitting on 16 straight.

Portal had a senior duo take command as Elijah Coleman almost dropped a triple-double on 25 points, nine assists, and 12 steals and Joseph Thomas scored 31 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Coleman has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marion Tremble, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Charlton County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Imod Hamilton, who scored nine points. Another player making a difference was Jack Braddock, who scored 17 points.

Portal pushed their record up to 27-1 with that victory, which was their 27th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points per game. As for Charlton County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-15.

Portal will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Early County at 3:00 p.m. Portal knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 20 games -- so hopefully Early County likes a good challenge.
