Basketball Recap: Hannibal Takes a Loss

Hannibal made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mexico, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Pirates fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 55-53 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 37th).

This is the second loss in a row for Hannibal and nudges their season record down to 1-6. As for Mexico, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hannibal will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Helias at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2026. As for Mexico, they will be home for the holidays to greet Harrisburg at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
