Baseball Recap: Beaver Falls Comes Up Short

Beaver Falls extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-3. They came up short against the Quaker Valley Quakers, falling 17-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Quakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Wednesday.

As for Quaker Valley, the win got them back to even at 3-3-1. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Quaker Valley's part, Todd Kagle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Kagle a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Quaker Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-0-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

Coming up, Beaver Falls will face off against Mohawk Area at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Quaker Valley, they will challenge New Brighton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Quakers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
