Baseball Game Preview: Lakeland Cavaliers vs. Nansemond River Warriors

Lakeland is 1-9 against Nansemond River since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Cavaliers will challenge the Warriors at 5:45 p.m. Lakeland's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Nansemond River's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Lakeland had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Deep Creek on Tuesday. The Cavaliers blew past the Hornets 10-4. The win continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won four in a row.

Nansemond River had taken Oscar Smith down for four straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Warriors came up short against the Tigers, falling 16-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost three in a row.

Buddy Baker was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Konner Johnson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Lakeland's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Nansemond River, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.
