Softball Recap: Mountain Grove Wins Going Away Against Alton

Mountain Grove barely beat Alton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Mountain Grove put the hurt on Alton with a sharp 17-6 win on Monday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Panthers also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2022.

Hannah Dowden looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Mountain Grove got a massive performance out of Gabby Miller, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Landry Golden, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs.

Mountain Grove has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 14.0 runs this season. As for Alton, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mountain Grove is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Liberty at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Alton, they will challenge Eminence at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
